So, I'm anticipating that not everyone will understand the title of my blog; and that's wonderful! The linguistic confusion you may be experiencing is actually the purpose of my trip to Spain: to translate things and help people share their thoughts.
I have this romantic notion of a translator [and language in general] which might cause you to roll your eyes and call me out on being the nerd that I am, but that's okay with me. Still, I won't bore you with how words fascinate me or how beautiful I think translating is [at least, not yet] because I'm sure you're still sitting there thinking WHAT THE HECK DOES NOVIA DEL MAR MEAN?
Actually, I pulled this name from a song. A Spanish song written by Jorge Sepúlveda: This dashing man pictured below.

In the opening line of this love song, he sings, "Santander, eres novia del mar". Which means, "Santander, you are the bride of the sea". Besides the nice image it creates, it seemed fitting to dedicate the blog to this beautiful bride, where I will be living for the next few months. And so now, the mystery is solved! Perhaps you'll even venture to give the song a listen. |
